The revolution is upon us. Wake up!

Viva La Revolucion!

my people are you with me? where you at?

The w years will forever be a low point in our country’s history. Much like the Regan economic and drug policies, w’s administration left a legacy our country will spend decades paying for and trying to correct.

Luckily we can now look back see that it is always darkest before the dawn. It’s time assess the damage and take a hard look at what we have become. It’s not pretty, we have lost our way. Our consumption is out of control, we are at the mercy of big business and we are failing the most vulnerable  members of our society. But we have a visionary leader ready to address these gross injustices.

The Obama’s have offered themselves up for the cause. Why? I don’t know, it’s not a job for the faint of heart. The are accountable for cleaning up a mess that they did not create. They are under constant scrutiny by people who would like to see them fail. And no matter what they do, they will be criticized by people who themselves are doing nothing. They are leading this country as we face the consequences of generations of short sightedness and greed and they are doing it with grace and style.

This is a revolution folks. Make no mistake, what is happening now is just as radical as what took place in this country in the sixties. It just looks so  different that people can not see it for what it is. Think of it as the Wu wei revolution – it looks like nothing is happening, but things get done.

This movement is grassroots and de-centralized. It’s about working at the most local  levels using the existing systems. It’s a revolution of working smarter, not harder. Obama, and his devoted team of very smart people, have showed us how to mobilize groups for action, not just shows of solidarity.  I call it the silent machine.

You don’t have to believe me. Hilary, McCain and the entire republican party underestimated it to their peril. By the time they realized what was happening, it was already over.  By then, Obama was gathering his transition team and preparing to assume leadership. And now they are in office and bravely trying to dismantle the bomb the system from within.

But what are we doing? Helping during the election felt GREAT. And the Day of Service was a fitting way of honoring those who came before us. But since then? It’s so easy to slip back into lazy habits of mind and democracy. You know, where you mail a ballot in once a year and then criticize and complain about how the administration does not represent you.

Well, those days of hopelessness and helplessness are over. Electing this bold new leadership was a commitment by us all to get involved. Obama is fighting tirelessly for transparency in the government, improving international relations and addressing years of pro business policy.

Michelle is redefining what a modern woman looks like, and in this humble feminist’s opinion, is doing us all proud. They are teaching by example: They are creating the world they want for us all.

It’s not rocket science. The Obamas are acting on their own convictions and doing what they know is right. You know what you should be doing. You’ve been meaning to get to it, but….but nothing. There’s no time to waste, there is a revolution going on. Wake Up!

Three cheers for this post! I completely agree with your sentiments. But one thing I don’t understand is the criticism of President Obama and taking his wife out on a date. We read all kinds of blogs and mental health journals, as well as “relationship experts” say that it is good for keeping the marriage alive. And this guy isn’t exactly allowed to get into his Ford and drive off into the sunset. I think the guy (his whole family really) is doing what the right want us to do……have loving, committed marriages that we take care of and stay together!!! (Isn’t it the right that believe so much that today’s marriages are in ruins because of divorce rates, etc.?) So, why the bells and whistles when the guy is not only working hard to bring America back from on it’s knees but also to maintain the marriage he has worked so hard for? I say we, and our kids, have a great role model in Obama, as well as strong leader and we should all be thankful. Like you said, we should also be doing our part to help as well.
