Bonita got the Jezebel ban hammer

I am as surprised as the rest of you. I’m really torn. I love the community, but I stand by my comment. Their Occupy Wallstreet coverage went from sadly lacking to totally laughable. I’m sad to be losing contact with my fellow jezzies. If you want to keep up with me, please subscribe to Bonita Appleblog. And know this is really devastating to me. The community wasn’t perfect, but I always tried to help foster it with positivity and optimism.

Be Strong know yourself and freak the jezzies. They have given in to corporate greed.

Why would they ban you for criticism?? That’s the point of blog comments, hello.

I have no idea why it came out of the blue like this, I’ve never heard boo from jezebel until today when they took my star and banned me. I have seen other commenters get multiple warnings for being real jerks over much less and I had a point with the comment. I am passionate about the Occupy Movement and the post seemed designed to undercut the movement, nothing more. And right now, there is yet another buy this product post on top of the mainpage and they really did have a post on where nail polish colors come from over the weekend. I’ve tried to stick with the part of Jezebel I love (the community!) and keep away from what bothers me most (they have truly become what they once mocked). I sent a polite email to Jessica asking for reconsideration, but I haven’t heard back. The truth is, I have to admit this is Jezebel, it always has been. The whole starring, de-starring and banning system is totally arbitrary. I just looked away and hoped it wouldn’t happen to me. And it didn’t, until now.

I think that’s fucked up. Jezebel wants to ban you for speaking the truth, but you’re not the only jezzie who feels the same.

It would be one thing if that wasn’t the only article about the occuption, but it is. How immature. Good for you and your comment and shame on them for not only not responding directly but for blocking you. What a bunch of cowards.

Even though I am still fairly new to commenting on Jez, I always enjoyed reading any comments you posted, especially in the open threads and groupthink…probably since it was such a relaxed setting. I also REALLY liked the fact that you were always so quick to welcome any lurkers/newcomers to “the other side”.

Thanks for keepin’ it real! And for posting awesome music videos from time to time!

I’ll be following your blog 🙂

I was so shocked. The conflict, as I see it, boils down to this:

Politics and news go on Gawker, which is full of hateful jackholes. Jez, which has an amazing community, is restricted to the pink slum of “Celebrity. Sex. Fashion.”

    You’ll be missed!

Wow. Really? I’m not a Jezebel member, but I read the site–and often the comments. After hearing this, I’m not sure I’ll be returning. First of all, the fact that you had a star means that you must have been a long-standing member, and not, say, some random troll bent on stirring up trouble; secondly, I’ve never heard of a forum pulling a moderator and banning someone without at least first giving them a warning. They really banned you for criticizing the frivolousness of their articles? I am seriously unimpressed.

I’m only a sporadic Jez poster, but I’ve been almost since the beginning and I’ve watched its downfall over the past few years. I’m sorry. I wish I could say I was shocked, but I’ve watched many a good commenter banned over incredibly small things while bigoted, sexist crap goes unnoticed.

I’m sorry to hear that. 😦 There are many of us former Jezzies on Tumblr- I’m not sure if you’re on there or not- and a bunch of us are over at Persephone Magazine (full disclosure- I’m one of the editors). The pace at P-Mag is a little slower, but the articles are a little different in tone and subject. (We’ve had at least a half dozen, probably more, posts on the Occupy movement.) Anyway, I’d love to see you either place.
